Zombies in film and literature have evolved since their conceptions. What once were lumbering, murderous corpses are now...well, still murderous corpses. But with the passing years, zombies have grown and they've become faster, smarter, more bloodthirsty, in some instances scarier, but also have had added depths and dimensions to each portrayal beyond lumbering, murderous corpses. Back in October of 2021, the paws of the undead clawed up and broke through the dirt, and The Howling Dead was released to strike fear into the hearts of the living.
And now, the dead rise once again, in this planned sequel NIGHT OF THE HOWLING DEAD!
In this second installment exploring the furry undead, we're looking for even more stories of the reanimated furry dead, ready to stalk and walk through the night. There is no hard and fast rule as to what type of zombie you wish to write about or what mythos or legend piques your interest. They can be reminiscent of the meandering, flesh-eating creatures as seen in George A. Romero's 1968 classic "Night of the Living Dead" or they can be the horrifyingly fast and brutal revenants from more modern works like "Train to Busan". We're looking for a variety of stories, featuring different takes on the zombie-subgenre, whether hilarious, horrifying, or heartbreaking.
Each story needs to be furry in nature and feature undead characters. Zombies are the traditional norm, but do not feel limited if your knowledge of folklore and myths go deeper to incorporate into your story!
Word Count: 2,500-8,000 words. A little above or a little below will be acceptable. You may send up to three stories, but we will only be accepting one per author.
